At times every system needs an upgrade or tune up to suit environments. Room acoustics are very subjective and change the louder you go.

1.) We advise speaker placement and specific system adjustments to get the best out of what you have.

2.) Modifications to existing set ups using the same enclosure but upgrading the internal components to give huge extra performance and listening pleasure with the same amplifier and control system (If at a reasonable level). We can arrange pick up or your treasured speakers, complete all the work agreed, deliver and set up for the new experience.

A personal visit is fuel cost plus 25 per hour. An online consultation is free for 15 minutes.

Our power output range is vast. From 200 Watts to 20 Kilowatts.

As every speaker system is unique its hard to give exact pricing but after consultation of desired size, specification etc... a price bracket can be quickly found. As a guide a very basic hand made system (a pair of speakers) would be 1200 minimum.

Subwoofer

The criteria for this build was to be able to physically move an audience and look ultra modern with high décor.

The performance of the 18”/450mm transducer surprised us, which does not happen often. We would liken it to an audio bulldozer with effortless low frequency performance at sub 20Hz.

The Xmax is 52mm and the piston like behaviour is completely linear with zero distortion for this amazing high quality American component.

The enclosure is sealed with a volume of 120 Litres, heavy bracing, acoustic damping foam and QED cabling.

In this application the unit was passive with no internal amplifier but the 1KW Subwoofer could easily be made active as an optional extra.

Log Speakers

These two way hand carved speakers were designed as near field monitors for a compact studio with sonic excellence, power, style and beauty in mind.

This particular pair are passive (active is an optional extra).

They are carved from a 250mm diameter seasoned log of Red Elm/Jalakas with a 30mm Spruce front baffle.

They utilise a 5.25”/130mm Kevlar Bass/Mid unit and a 1”/25mm Mylar high frequency unit.

At the rear is a 200mm passive bass radiator to both improve and balance the Bass response for such a small enclosure.

They have an adaptable mounting system and a Speakon input socket.

Frequency response is 40Hz-40Khz.

Blue Guitar Speaker

This was designed and built for a special client requiring a versatile but high quality and very powerful solution primarily for lead guitar but also vocal and backing tracks all in one.

The old school image was essential to the project whilst incorporating modern control equipment.

The 12”/300mm full range unit was carefully chosen from an well known English manufacturer with a frequency response from 40Hz to 17Khz and a power rating of 250 Watts.

The internal digital amplifier is Danish designed and built to match the 12” driver at 250 Watts RMS.

The 8 channel Berhringer mixer sits in two crafted and oiled pieces of Red Elm/Jalakas and is a snug secure fit.

This extra feature of mixer on top design in many ways is an obvious one given the necessity and practicality with added beauty of solid hard wood.

The rest of the of the enclosure is 18mm Birch Plywood with internal bracing and acoustic damping.

The Guardians

These floor standing world class speakers set themselves apart with a friendly but imposing stance in any room.

The smaller driver components are all from Scanspeak and hand made in Denmark. The 18” or 450mm diameter passive bass radiator is American and has a 65mm Xmax ( +/- cone movement).

The high frequency unit is a 1”/25mm Beryllium dome tweeter which means its super light with superior speed, dynamics and detail. You hear things that you thought were not there before.

The 4”/100mm Midrange unit is a highly advanced design, resulting in surreal depth and stereo imagery that gives you goosebumps.

The 12”/300mm Bass unit has a 56mm Xmax and a resonant frequency of 17Hz using a light but rigid aluminium cone.

So, if you are a bass head and love your low frequencies highly controlled, this combination of an active/passive coupling more than fulfils that role.

However, the acoustic alchemy they release to the air is far more than the sum of their parts.

Few people get to hear a world class speaker set up properly and it’s a shame because this level gives new meaning to music.

WHAT DETERMINES THE PRICE OF A SPEAKER?

Firstly, every AKL speaker(s) is completely unique according to client preference.

Our power output range is vast. From 200 Watts to 20 Kilowatts.

Our services fall into several price ranges to make pricing your new AKL hand made speaker(s) easier to understand.

As a general rule:

  1. The size of the enclosure. The bigger it is the more material needed etc… and cost rises accordingly.
  2. Power levels required.
  3. The number of drivers/transducers inside the enclosure.
  4. The decided quality of the components that will go inside the enclosure.
  5. Active (Amplifier inside the enclosure) or passive (A bespoke network built to separate the frequencies to the correct individual component).
  6. Accessories like special stands or wall mounting systems desired for the specific application or room décor.
  7. Control devices like Bluetooth receivers and preamplifiers.
  8. An installation service to complete the entire package.
